Compare the Standard and Premium editions of the RipCrypt Core Rulebook. Learn the differences, trade-offs, and which version fits your tabletop RPG needs.
Quick answer
If you want the full grimdark RPG experience with a sturdier cover and extras, choose the Premium Edition. If you're budget-conscious or just testing the waters, the Standard Edition delivers the same rules for less.
What stays the same
Both editions contain the complete RipCrypt Core Rulebook content. You get the same fast, pick-up-and-play dungeon sprint RPG for 1-8 players, combining boardgame-style dungeon crawling with grimdark fantasy roleplaying. The rules, hazards, traps, and the sprawling Undergrade setting are identical.
What changes between editions
The main difference is the physical quality and extras. The Standard Edition is a softcover at a lower price point. The Premium Edition upgrades to a hardcover binding and likely includes additional bookmarks, maps, or other physical extras that enhance the table experience. The Premium Edition also costs more, reflecting the better materials.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Standard Edition: Softcover, full rules, lowest price. Best for budget-friendly entry or if you plan to buy multiple copies for a group. You save money but get a less durable cover.
- Premium Edition: Hardcover, full rules, likely extras (maps, bookmarks). Best for collectors or frequent players who want a book that lasts. You pay more for better build quality and extras.
- Which to choose first?: If you are new to RipCrypt, the Standard Edition lets you try the game at a lower risk. If you already love the system or want the premium feel, go Premium. Your choice depends on your budget and how much you value physical extras.
